Position Summary

This is a full-time, fixed-term position with possibility of extension at the Research Technician level, supporting the KAUST Solar Center’s outdoor testing activities. The position requires an engineering background (e.g., electrical and mechanical engineering) and hands-on experience with field testing equipment. Professional experience in a technical/industrial environment around PV system installation and testing is a plus. The candidate should have a proven track record in executing projects independently.

Major Responsibilities

  • Support ongoing research projects around outdoor testing of photovoltaic cells, modules and PV systems  
  • Maintain and operate KAUST Solar Center’s outdoor test field including PV tracking equipment and environmental sensors
  • Maintain PV data loggers and online data bases   
  • Electrical characterization of single cell devices and modules in the lab and outdoors
  • Evaluate, track and report data from outdoor and indoor test measurements
  • Simulate data using commercial PV design software
  • Support the Center’s faculty and researchers in collaborations with local, regional, and international research institutes, universities, and companies
  • Support and advance the Center’s PV module outdoor testing capabilities

Other Responsibilities

  • Adequately collect, store, and maintain data sets
  • Assist with analyzing and displaying data as well as compiling reports for internal and external collaborators
  • Assist in maintaining effective safety protocols in the outdoor test field

Competencies

  • Hands-on experience in using high-tech equipment and industrial machinery with emphasis on field testing equipment for electrical measurements
  • Hands-on experience in troubleshooting electrical devices
  • Hands-on experience with SCADA control systems
  • Experienced with PV testing equipment and PV testing standards
  • Experienced with PV System installation methodologies and standards
  • Basic experience with commercial PV system simulation software
  • Basic understanding of photovoltaic technologies and solar energy conversion
  • Ability to work collaboratively and foster a cooperative work environment
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English

Desired Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering or related discipline with subsequent experience in an R&D lab or in a technical/industrial environment
  • Demonstrate high level of commitment, teamwork, and strong organizational skills
