Embarking on Building World-Class National Labs at KACST in the Energy Sector

This talk will outline the strategic contributions of KACST and our Energy Institute across three pillars in the energy sector. The first pillar, Research & Development (R&D), features research on cutting-edge topics like radiative cooling, the application of perovskite in solar technology, graphene in energy storage, anti-soiling coatings for solar panels, metro power quality studies, and pioneering work in agrivoltaics. The second pillar focuses on establishing state-of-the-art facilities that will serve as the national labs, and support system for the energy ecosystem, such as a battery cell pilot line and an advanced battery testing facility, inspired by similar state of the art labs at KAUST. The third pillar discusses our 2024 partnerships with Acwa Power, LUCID, and NREL, aimed at driving forward research in future battery technologies, resilient solar technologies for arid climates, and further developments in agrivoltaics. This presentation will demonstrate how these efforts not only advance energy technology but also strengthen both national and international collaborations in pursuit of sustainable energy solutions.
