Biography
Dr. Raed Sherif is a veteran of the solar industry with over 30 years of professional experience. He is currently working at King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy (K.A.CARE) as a senior expert and manager of the renewable energy standards department. Prior to that, Raed held positions as a senior consultant in Kuwait Oil Company, overseeing the deployment of their first utility-scale solar project in the oilfields. Earlier, Raed worked in leading high-tech companies in the US such as IBM and Boeing in addition to start-up solar technology companies. Raed worked in different sectors of solar energy including photovoltaics, concentrated PV, and concentrated solar thermal power (CSP). He was a member of the NREL-Boeing team that developed the first concentrator multijunction solar cell to exceed 40% efficiency in 2007. Raed obtained his Ph.D. and M.S. degrees from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and his B.Sc. degree with highest honors form Alexandria University, Egypt. Raed has 29 issued patents in the fields of microelectronics and solar energy.
