Biography

Prof. Dr. Ralph Gottschalg is a distinguished figure in the field of photovoltaics. His extensive research encompasses, among others, a broad spectrum of topics including standardization, quality assurance of systems and components, and applied metrology. Gottschalg's career path reflects his dedication to advancing solar energy technologies. Since 2018, he has served as the Director of the Fraunhofer Center for Silicon Photovoltaics CSP, Department CSP-ISE, Halle (Saale), while also holding the position of Professor of Photovoltaic Energy Systems at Anhalt University of Applied Sciences, Köthen. Prior to this, he attained the rank of Professor of Applied Photovoltaics at CREST at Loughborough University in 2010. Gottschalg entered academia in 1996, pursuing a PhD at Loughborough University, completing it in 2000. Prior to this, he earned an MSc in Renewable Energy Systems Technology from the same university and a Diplom in Physics from the University Fridericiana in Karlsruhe, focusing on solar cells and computer science. Throughout his career, Gottschalg's contributions have been recognized with prestigious awards and honors. In 2020, i.e., he received the German-African Innovation Incentive Award for his work on the SoDeCo project. In addition to his research, Gottschalg is actively involved in professional memberships and advisory roles, including positions with organizations like the International Electrotechnical Commission TC82, CENELEC TC82. He has also served as Vice Chair of the Life Cycle Workstream of Solar Power Europe and as Sub-project leader for 'Reliability and Durability' within the Joint Programme Photovoltaics of the European Energy Research Alliance (EERA-PV)
