Dr. Shen has an unwavering passion and aspiration to create affordable, reliable, and accessible clean electricity technologies to people worldwide, which has steered her career path. Shen earned the bachelor’s degree (University Medal) in Material Science and Engineering from Huazhong University of Science and Technology in 2009, and the PhD degree from Tsinghua University in China in 2014. She subsequently pursued her academic journey by holding postdoctoral research position within School of Engineering at the Australian National University.

Dr. Shen is currently a senior research fellow/lecturer (Assistant Professor, Tenured) at ANU School of Engineering, leading a team focusing on developing the next generation ultra-low-cost solar cell technologies including perovskite and tandem solar cells. Shen and her team have achieved multiple solar cell efficiency records, developed two patents on tandem solar cell technology, and published 90 publications on top tier journals including Nature, Science and Nature Review Materials. Shen took a leading role in attracting and managing multi-partner, multi-million projects. She collaborates extensively with leading photovoltaics manufacturing companies, including Jinko Solar and Risen Energy, to advance the commercialization of next generation solar cell technologies.
