"Coffee-Ring Effect": Chance observation leads to significant development in polycrystals for improved semiconductors

​​The chance observation of crystals forming a coffee-ring effect by Dr. Liyang Yu has led to Prof. Amassian and co-workers at KSC making significant advances in controlling crystallization, paving the way for high-quality, bespoke polycrystal semiconductors and giving rise to improved optoelectronics, photovoltaics and printed electronic components.
