Great Tips for Scientific Publications by Dr. Elsa Couderc from Nature Energy

12 April, 2018

All Ph.D.s must have gone through the ever frustrating process of designing figures for manuscripts and coming up with the appropriate title. In this brief interview, Dr. Elsa Couderc, a senior editor at Nature Energy, explains the process of making excellent figures and creating an accurate title.

Dr. Couderc is an Associate Editor at Nature Energy. She joined Nature Research in June 2015 as an editor for Nature Communications where she handled manuscripts in diverse areas of applied physics. In November 2016 she joined Nature Energy where she coordinates content in various areas relating to renewable energy.

Recently Dr. Couderc visited KAUST to attend the "KAUST Research Conference: Synergistic Approaches in Solar Energy Conversion" organized by KAUST Solar Center. KSC Ph.D. students Rahim Munir, Esma Ugur and alumnus Ahmed Mansour organized a brief and informational interview with her to get her insights on publication in general. When asked about the quality of Nature publications, she explains that a massive amount of editorial work goes on behind the scenes but emphasizes is given to 'the high-quality work submitted by the researcher.' She goes on to explain that the title should pedantically capture the specific research presented in the manuscript and the express its general belonging to the field. She also highlighted the upcoming trends in scientific publications.
