As reported in “KAUST News”, research into solar energy was a dominant subject in this year’s Saudi Research Science Institute (SRSI). KAUST’s SRSI provides talented 11th grade students from across the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia the opportunity to experience 6 weeks working in state-of-the art laboratories under the supervision of faculty members, postdocs and Ph.D. students
KAUST Solar Center is proud to support this program and to encourage the next generation of scientists and engineers from our host nation.
This year SRSI participants Dana Altoaimi investigated improving the efficiency of solar cells in exporting hydrogen and Aljazzy Alahmadi studied charge carrier dynamics at the interface between perovskite nanocrystals and molecular acceptors in Prof. Omar Mohammed’s group
“The SRSI program led me to choose the specialty I want to study at university and amplified my interest in environmental engineering”, Dana Altoaimi, SRSI 2017.
KSC is particularly proud that SRSI participant, Hamza Mohammed, hosted by KSC’s Prof. Frederic Laqaui, was awarded 2nd place in this year’s KAUST SRSI competition. Hamza investigated efficiency-limiting processes in polymer solar cells made with novel materials.
We wish all the SRSI participants future success and we hope they are inspired to pursue a career in science and technology.
