KSC is proud to support the Saudi Research Science Institute (SRSI) which is a rigorous summer research program designed for 11th grade students from high schools throughout Saudi Arabia to inspire the next generation of scientists, engineers, and mathematicians. 

As part of this program KSC is delighted to welcome Hamza Mohammed who will be spending six weeks in Prof. Laquai’s group. Born in Farmington Hills Michigan, USA, Hamza moved to KAUST in 2010 where he is a student at the KAUST School.

Hamza says, “Coming from KAUST, I have always been intrigued by and followed the research done in KSC and more generally in the material science division at KAUST. One thing that really attracted me to KAUST was the close collaboration of the various divisions and labs at KAUST, unique to this university. 

"I have always been interested in physical sciences. I had already done a project in water desalination. Working with the WDRC, I engineered a prototype low-cost low-tech desalination device. I extended on this project by looking into how nanomaterials (CNT) can be used to improve desalination. This helped introduce and evoke my interest in material science and nanotechnology, which eventually lead me to this exciting SRSI program and an opportunity to work with amazing people at KSC.

"When I got my tour with Prof. Frederic Laqaui, I was dazzled by the sophisticated and cutting edge technology present in KSC labs and the incredible research opportunities they bring. I am incredibly fortunate to have been selected into the SRSI program and to be working with Prof. Frédéric Laquai's group at KSC. I am eagerly looking forward to these invaluable 6 weeks of SRSI.”
