​This month we are delighted to welcome Prof. Thomas Anthopoulos who has joined KSC as Professor of Material Science and Engineering.

Prof. Anthopoulos received his B.Eng. in 1998, and in 2003 his Ph.D., from Staffordshire University, UK. He then moved to the University of St. Andrews, UK, where he worked on organic light-emitting diodes. From 2003-2006 Prof. Anthopoulos was a Marie Curie Postdoctoral Fellow at Philips Research Laboratories in The Netherlands, working on organic semiconductors for use in large-area opto/electronics. In 2005 he was awarded an EPSRC Advanced Fellowship and in 2007 a RCUK Fellowship both hosted in the Department of Physics, Imperial College London.

Prof. Anthopoulos's research interests are centered on understanding the properties of semiconductors and applying this fundamental understanding to develop improved material systems and devices for a wide range of applications in energy harvesting and generation, electronics, displays, lighting and sensors. He is also interested in innovative manufacturing technologies for large-area nanoelectronics where the device, and ultimately system performance, is determined by the device's physical dimensions rather than strictly by the active material(s) employed.
