Scientific Writing Workshop

02 June, 2018

KAUST Solar Center recently offered a five-day ‘Scientific Writing Workshop’ for the selected group of Ph.D. students and postdocs. The workshop was led by Dr. Umair bin Waheed, Assistant Professor at King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals, Dhahran, KSA. Dr. Waheed did his postdoc from Princeton University and during this time, he worked with the Princeton Writing Program (PWP) as a Writing in Science and Engineering Fellow under the mentorship of Judy Swan. He received intensive training in teaching writing at the PWP. Dr. Waheed now conducts workshops helping students across different universities to communicate their scientific discoveries through writing effectively.

At KSC, the workshop was focused on developing active writing process and managing it through various steps, including soliciting feedback and responding effectively to work in process. Such an understanding is vital for the young science writers to ensure that their work is well received by the scientific community.
